We were blessed to hear the beautiful sounds of the season this evening at our holiday concert, and so grateful for the support of our community sponsors who made our Blue Ribbon Reception possible. Thank you!

Students in 3rd-5th Grade are attending A Christmas Carol at West Liberty University on Friday, Dec. 5. Please consider having your child bring an item to donate -
Charles Dickens was profoundly moved by the harsh realities of poverty, child labor, and unsafe working conditions in Victorian England. Though he initially considered writing a political pamphlet, he chose instead to craft a story—knowing that narrative has a unique power to stir compassion. Dickens’ own childhood experiences, including his father’s imprisonment for debt and his own time working in a shoe-blacking factory at age 12, shaped his lifelong dedication to social justice. In that spirit, WLU is holding a food and personal-care item drive supporting the Ohio Valley Family Resource Network. See the attachment for suggested donation items.

It is not too late to order a book from "the best author in the world" (3rd-5th grade families - ask your children!)
Send orders tomorrow and we will get them to the author. We are so grateful to Madison Elementary for hosting us and the Ohio County Reading Association for sponsoring Michael Shoulders today!

With the holidays quickly approaching, we want to make sure we can connect families with the help they may need! Please complete the form by Thursday, November 20 if you need financial assistance! https://forms.gle/qme5TkPqbpQHdrSa8

Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue on Monday, November 10 as we show our gratitude to our Veterans.

Our 5th Grade Green Team under the direction of Mrs. Vanhorn has been working hard to educate our entire school community about the importance of recycling. We know some will start to decorate for the holidays this weekend. See the attached for information about recycling old Christmas lights, wires and extension cords.

We know you'll get extra candy that is not a family favorite, or you just don't want it all sitting around your house! Our Student Leadership Team will collect your extra candy on Monday, Nov. 3 and Tuesday, Nov. 4. We'll pack it up to send to the Wheeling Soup Kitchen to share a sweet treat with the underserved in our community. Thank you for sharing!

Next week, we are recognizing Red Ribbon Week. This is an opportunity to talk to our students about the importance of making healthy choices and living drug free.

Get ready to take off! As we embark on another journey across the globe with National School Lunch Week 25: Taste the World – Your School Lunch Passport, we invite you to get ready for amazing new adventures! Sample menus from Japan, Mexico, India, England and Italy.
Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. NSLW highlights the nutritious foods available daily in Ohio County Schools. School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium. Encourage your child to try a school lunch. All students in OCS can receive a free breakfast and lunch daily. This is a great week to check it out!

We are replacing the Fall Steak Fry with a Winter Fundraiser. Our committee has tossed a few ideas around, but we are ALWAYS open to new ideas! We promise, if you come to the meeting, you won't be in charge of everything! Please join us Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 3:15 in the media center. Your kids can stay with you for the meeting and we'll be done by 4:00!

We are seeking out parents who are interested in serving on the Local School Improvement Council. It is a great opportunity to look at school data and discuss ideas to make our school even more vibrant and engaging, all while focusing on educating our children. Contact Mrs. Dietrich, mdietric@k12.wv.us if you are interested in serving! You can "nominate" yourself. Our first meeting is after school on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 3:30-4:15. Your children can stay for the meeting with you.
