Another successful pumpkin drop in the books! Congratulations to our winners!

We finished up Red Ribbon Week with the theme - Our future's so bright, we've got to wear shades! We all have bad days, or bad moods, but there is always a bright side. When you are in the dumps and things seem dark, make a healthy choice and seek a friend who can lighten your mood. Or, take a walk, read a book, draw a picture. Find something that makes you feel brighter!

Parents are asked to complete an online survey about school climate—the learning and teaching/working conditions—to help guide school improvement efforts. The results of this survey will be used to make changes in our school to ensure a supportive environment for teaching and learning. The survey may be completed from any computer with an internet connection.
Parent participation in the survey is very important. If you have questions about the survey or problems completing the survey, please contact Mrs. Dietrich, mdietric@k12.wv.us To protect parent/caregiver confidentiality, at least 10 parents must take the survey for results to be summarized for our school.
Parents can access the survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WVSLES_P_F23
Parent login code: P064210

With a clear mind, you can BE ALL THAT YOU CAN BE!

Today's Red Ribbon Week theme was "Team Up Against Drugs." When you are on a team, you look out for one another. If someone you care about is making unsafe choices, make sure to tell a trusted adult.

Fifth graders love hanging out with their Cardinal Cousins from Wheeling University! This program connects students from the education department with students in fifth grade to build relationships and communication skills

Next week, Steenrod is participating in Red Ribbon Week. Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. In honor of Kiki's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents then began to form coalitions using Camarena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the Red Ribbon. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
Join us in spreading a positive message to live drug free!

Today, two senior student RNs from Franciscan University discussed healthy eating habits with students in grades PreK-2. The Franciscan students have been getting hours with school Nurse Crystal Law.

Today, Wheeling University athletes and WTRF visited during school lunches. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. We are grateful for community members who have come to help us share this message!

We were honored to welcome Lisa McGee, Air Force veteran and former parent, at lunches today as we continue to recognize National School Lunch Week.

To celebrate School Lunch Week, we invited some Wheeling Nailers to visit during lunch today.

Stanley visited the PreK students outside and came to see Kindergarten and 3rd Grade for National School Lunch Week!
