Next week, Steenrod is participating in Red Ribbon Week. Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico in 1985. In honor of Kiki's memory and his battle against illegal drugs, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin. Parents then began to form coalitions using Camarena as their model while embracing his belief that one person can make a difference. These coalitions adopted the symbol of Camarena's memory, the Red Ribbon. Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
Join us in spreading a positive message to live drug free!

Today, two senior student RNs from Franciscan University discussed healthy eating habits with students in grades PreK-2. The Franciscan students have been getting hours with school Nurse Crystal Law.

Today, Wheeling University athletes and WTRF visited during school lunches. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. We are grateful for community members who have come to help us share this message!

We were honored to welcome Lisa McGee, Air Force veteran and former parent, at lunches today as we continue to recognize National School Lunch Week.

To celebrate School Lunch Week, we invited some Wheeling Nailers to visit during lunch today.

Stanley visited the PreK students outside and came to see Kindergarten and 3rd Grade for National School Lunch Week!
