Fifth grade Open House is rescheduled to Thursday Sept 15. Grades 1-4 will still be Thursday Sept 8.
We are looking for ONE parent to join us on our Local School Improvement Council! Please consider becoming a part of this group that meets four times a year with the singular goal of making our school community BETTER! The SMART529 College Savings Program is celebrating its 20th anniversary by offering $20,000 SMART529 scholarships to three lucky West Virginia children ages 14 and under. Scholarship winners will be selected the first week of October, the first week of November, and the first week of December. What an exciting week for our Kindergarten Cardinals! Tomorrow we welcome the first group and on Tuesday we welcome the second group. On Wednesday the whole Kindergarten crew will be here. With more students, this will mean a little more traffic, so be prepared. As a reminder, please do not arrive before 2:30 to pick up students at the end of the day. And please, make sure your child and your child's teacher know how they are getting home!
This Thursday afternoon, our Pre School families will have an Open House. We can't wait to meet the littlest Cardinals who are joining our nest!
Next Thursday, September 8,, we will have an Open House for Grades 1-5. Watch for additional information to come home this week - classroom presentations will be at 5:00 and 5:30 (again, this is on September 8).
Please also keep an eye open for all of the Cardinals in Motion Steak Fry information coming home! You should have received order forms for steak fry attendance, and this week we're sending 50/50 tickets. Each child will receive two tickets to sell for $5 each. If you cannot sell the tickets, please send them back to school, and if you would like more to sell, send a note in your child's agenda. Additionally, we are asking for classroom participation in creating a raffle basket. You'll get a note letting you know the theme for your grade level.

We are almost there! The end of a fantastic start to what promises to be an amazing year! We are celebrating Park Pride tomorrow as our Wheeling Park High School Football team has their first home game! Students are encouraged to wear their red, white and blue!
Also, all students can get into Park Home events by showing their student ID. These will be sent home tomorrow. Please keep them at home for use all year. We do not need them to be returned.
Tomorrow morning, we are having screening for new PreK and Kindergarten students. The nurse has asked me to remind ALL Kindergarten students that updated shot records for 2022-23 should include the 2nd MMR and Varicella (chicken pox) vaccines, and students should have a physical which was performed in the last year.

What a GREAT day! I hope your children said the same when they got home. I have just a few important things to share.
First, after you drop off in the morning and pick up at the end of the day, make sure that you are exiting the parking lot using the lane that runs behind Triadelphia Middle School.
Second, if your child is a walker at the end of the day, you do need to go to the teacher on duty to check them out. There are a lot of walkers and we want to make sure we are as safe as possible! Students in grades 4-5 are permitted to walk home alone, unless you send us a note indicating otherwise.
Third, bus schedules are posted. https://boe.ohio.k12.wv.us/page/bus-schedules They have changed from last year. I apologize for not bringing this to your attention before today and am sorry for any confusion! Students who are in grades K-3 need to have an adult meet them at the bus stop.
Fourth, our back field has unfortunately been discovered by geese. If your child slides into an unfortunate mess, we do have SOME pants they can change into, but it is not a bad idea, even for our older students, to keep an extra pair of pants or shorts in their locker.
Finally, all students received a t-shirt today that says Spread Your Wings. We are asking them to wear them tomorrow.

It's almost GO TIME and we are so excited to see all of our returning students and we cannot wait to meet our new ones!! Don't forget that Monday evening from 5:00-6:00, families with students in Grades 1-5 can walk through and drop off any school supplies that may be bulky. Those who have students in PreK and Kindergarten will have a chance to do that later and your teachers will communicate with you to schedule.
This is likely the first of a few messages I put out this week. Bear in mind that we have changed our student data system and there have been glitches in who is getting calls. I will share my messages on Apptegy and Schoology as well to make sure you are aware of all that is going on! Please send me an email with any questions or concerns you may have! You can also call the school office but tomorrow is packed full with meetings to get ready for Tuesday.

We are so grateful to the Ohio County WVU Extension Office/ WV Family Nutrition Program for their work on our playground today! The Active Pathways Stencils look fantastic and our students will enjoy them so much!
We had a GREAT first day with all of our staff - many are returning, but we've got quite a few new faces as well! We can't wait to see you all next week! Don't forget, on Monday evening, Grades 1-5 can walk through, drop off supplies and meet their teachers between 5:00-6:00.
PreK and K families will be contacted to set up screening and be assigned a time to visit the classroom.
We ran into some issues with printing mailing labels, so our mailing will be delayed by a day. You should receive the postcard with your child's homeroom listed by Friday. If you don't, please call the school office so that we can update your address!
As a reminder, if you would like to help paint stencils on the playground, we will be doing that Thursday at 9:00. Thanks so much for your support!
Crittenton Services will once again provide After Care at Steenrod. I have attached the paperwork. You can also pick up a packet in the main office. Remember, paperwork must be filled in completely before students can attend.

Thanks for your support of our carnival last week! We raised close to $1,500 for our playground. It was so great to see new and returning families having fun ... especially on our new climber!
This Thursday, if you are interested in helping to paint stencils on our playground, please come to the school at 9:00 a.m. You can just come around to the back. We will have the materials needed for painting.
We will be mailing postcards on Tuesday to let you know your child's homeroom teacher. Please contact the school office if you have not received the postcard by this Thursday.
