What a GREAT day! I hope your children said the same when they got home. I have just a few important things to share.
First, after you drop off in the morning and pick up at the end of the day, make sure that you are exiting the parking lot using the lane that runs behind Triadelphia Middle School.
Second, if your child is a walker at the end of the day, you do need to go to the teacher on duty to check them out. There are a lot of walkers and we want to make sure we are as safe as possible! Students in grades 4-5 are permitted to walk home alone, unless you send us a note indicating otherwise.
Third, bus schedules are posted. https://boe.ohio.k12.wv.us/page/bus-schedules They have changed from last year. I apologize for not bringing this to your attention before today and am sorry for any confusion! Students who are in grades K-3 need to have an adult meet them at the bus stop.
Fourth, our back field has unfortunately been discovered by geese. If your child slides into an unfortunate mess, we do have SOME pants they can change into, but it is not a bad idea, even for our older students, to keep an extra pair of pants or shorts in their locker.
Finally, all students received a t-shirt today that says Spread Your Wings. We are asking them to wear them tomorrow.
As always, reach out with any questions or concerns. As the year progresses, there will be times when we make mistakes, but trust that we will work with you to fix any problems.

You will receive a print copy of our Student Handbook, which is also linked here:

It's almost GO TIME and we are so excited to see all of our returning students and we cannot wait to meet our new ones!! Don't forget that Monday evening from 5:00-6:00, families with students in Grades 1-5 can walk through and drop off any school supplies that may be bulky. Those who have students in PreK and Kindergarten will have a chance to do that later and your teachers will communicate with you to schedule.
This is likely the first of a few messages I put out this week. Bear in mind that we have changed our student data system and there have been glitches in who is getting calls. I will share my messages on Apptegy and Schoology as well to make sure you are aware of all that is going on! Please send me an email with any questions or concerns you may have! You can also call the school office but tomorrow is packed full with meetings to get ready for Tuesday.

2nd Grade - if your homeroom postcard said Miss Wolfe, your teacher will be Miss Henderson!
5th Grade - if your homeroom postcard said Mrs. Richardson, your teacher will be Miss Wolfe!

We are so grateful to the Ohio County WVU Extension Office/ WV Family Nutrition Program for their work on our playground today! The Active Pathways Stencils look fantastic and our students will enjoy them so much!

We had a GREAT first day with all of our staff - many are returning, but we've got quite a few new faces as well! We can't wait to see you all next week! Don't forget, on Monday evening, Grades 1-5 can walk through, drop off supplies and meet their teachers between 5:00-6:00.
PreK and K families will be contacted to set up screening and be assigned a time to visit the classroom.

We ran into some issues with printing mailing labels, so our mailing will be delayed by a day. You should receive the postcard with your child's homeroom listed by Friday. If you don't, please call the school office so that we can update your address!
As a reminder, if you would like to help paint stencils on the playground, we will be doing that Thursday at 9:00. Thanks so much for your support!

Crittenton Services will once again provide After Care at Steenrod. I have attached the paperwork. You can also pick up a packet in the main office. Remember, paperwork must be filled in completely before students can attend.

We are so excited about our "Come and Play" Carnival event this Wednesday, August 10 from 5:00-8:00. We have had some difficulty with the online payment system; you will be able to pay the evening of the event. This is a fundraiser for our playground. For $15 per family, you will get 15 tickets that can be used at our carnival games - from simple duck ponds to the dunk tank, or you can use the tickets to purchase pizza and bottled water. You will be able to buy more tickets to play games all evening, and we will have some free activities as well, such as a sprinkler, water balloons and the Fun-Raiser mobile playground, along with our brand new rope climber! In addition to our carnival offerings, you can purchase treats from Snobiz and the Southpaw Eatz food truck. **PLEASE SIGN UP SO THAT WE CAN HAVE ENOUGH SUPPLIES ON HAND! To register, use the link - Carnival Sign Up
Of course, all of this fun is pending weather! If we cancel, I will do a call out on Wednesday before noon.
We have postponed the stencil painting on the playground - I'll notify everyone when it is rescheduled.
If you have not already done so, please download the apptegy app to your phone or tablet to keep up to date on everything happening in Ohio County Schools! We will continue to send call-outs and post on Facebook, but this gives you another method to keep in the loop!
As we gear up for back to school, you can count on more evening phone calls. Please contact me at the school office if you have questions, or send me an email, mdietric@k12.wv.us.
