Full text of this evening’s call: Good evening Cardinal Families … As we start this school year, there is a feeling of familiarity – much of it positive and some that may make you feel a little anxious. Above all else, we want you know that that our mission at Steenrod is to educate your children on a journey through kindness, compassion and respect. When you drop your children off in the morning or wave goodbye from the bus stop, please trust that we will take care of them and make sure they feel loved and safe. The recommendation from the Ohio County Health Department is to wear a mask. At last night’s board meeting, the decision was made to allow parent choice. To assist you in making an informed decision, a School Recovery and Guidance Plan will be available on the Ohio County Schools website. Quarantine guidelines vary depending on whether or not students are wearing masks (**noted below). I have just a few final requests as you prepare for the first day of school for your child: If you wish for a mask to be worn, please send a note so that their teacher is aware. Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home. For children in younger grades, please write a note to their teacher. Please be patient as we deal with remnants of construction around the building. We’ll get there and when we do, it will be great! Finally, be ready to RISE AND SHINE to jump into the first day of the 2021-22 school year. We are so excited that you will be here! As always, call the school office or send an email with any questions or concerns. **Outlined by Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department Close contact in a school setting for students • Only quarantine students who were within 3 ft. of an infected student without a mask. • No quarantine if both individuals were wearing a mask or if fully vaccinated and symptom free. (This exception does not apply to adults in the classroom.) Quarantine for non-vaccinated (or if both students were not wearing mask): • 14 days (returning on day 15) • 10 days (returning on day 11), symptom free and no test • 7 days (returning on day 8), symptom free and negative test taken on day 5 • Those returning after 7 or 10 days must wear a mask through day 14.

April is the month of the military child. We wore purple in recognition of the strength and sacrifice of all military children, and we welcomed Jacob and Jimmy’s dad, Staff Sergeant Jacob Whisler, US Army who recently returned from Operation Enduring Freedom - Horn of Africa.
