This week we are shining a spotlight on Ms. Rachel, our ESMH Youth Advocate. Ms. Rachel provides support to our students when they need someone to talk with, and she runs "Lunch Bunch" groups discussing important topics with students.

Congratulations to our newly elected Student Council!

We'd love your help! Our PTA is putting together a Rubbermaid shed tomorrow, Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 a.m. If you are willing and able, we'd love some help! Come to the back of the school.

In our most recent "Cardinal Connection," we shared a link to a survey about how satisfied you are with our school. Follow this link: https://forms.gle/nBiW861Z98QyQjxw8 to complete a survey. We want to do what we can to support your family!

This week, we shine a spotlight on Nurse Emily! She is at Steenrod from 7:30-11:30 daily; please reach out if you have any health related questions that she can help answer.

This week we are shining a spotlight on Ms. Nickie! She is the voice you hear when you call your child off absent or tardy. She keeps us all organized!

Steenrod thrives because of amazing teachers and an amazing PTA! Mrs. Schmitt checks both boxes as the kindergarten teacher and PTA President. We hope that you will join PTA to become a part of a community with the goal of supporting students, teachers and families!

Preschool and Kindergarten Families, mark your calendars!

Preschool and Kindergarten families, join us this Thursday! We can't wait to meet you!

Each week, we'll spotlight one of our Steenrod Staff. You'll learn a little about their background, personality and favorite things. Around their picture, you will see words shared by other staff members to describe the person in the spotlight. This week, meet our principal, Mrs. Dietrich.

Greeting our students as we mixed and mingled this evening was the best! Now we’re even more excited for Friday ✨

Meet Mrs. Kucera!
Hello everyone! My name is Kathryn Kucera and I will be the new 5th grade teacher!
This will be my 8th year teaching and I am beyond excited to join the Steenrod family. I grew up in Moundsville and graduated from Wheeling Park. I attended West Virginia University to study education and after graduation my husband and I decided to stay in Morgantown where I have taught Pre-K, 6th Grade, and 5th Grade. After having our son, we decided to move back to Wheeling and last year I taught Media at Bridge Street Middle.
I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with my little boy and husband. I have three dogs named Zoey, Bentley, and Griffin. I love Taylor Swift, Dunkin Donuts, and the Pittsburgh Penguins! I also absolutely love being an educator. It is truly one of the most rewarding careers and I am blessed to get to spend my days watching students learn and grow.
I can't wait to see what this school year brings! I will leave you with my favorite quote from my favorite celebrity (T. Swift): "No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

Meet Mrs. Harman!
I'm thrilled to introduce myself as one of the newest members of the team. I'm Kayla Harman, and I'm excited to bring my 19 years of experience in education to the 3rd-grade classroom here at Steenrod. Much of my prior experience has been in administration, where I had the opportunity to observe, suggest, and support various classroom techniques and strategies. I come from the charming town of Powhatan Point, Ohio, where I live with my wonderful husband, our three energetic children, one playful dog, and our delightful granddog.
Growing up on a farm in Monroe County, Ohio, taught me the value of hard work and the simple joys of life. These days, when I'm not cheering on my kids in their various endeavors, you can find me boating, enjoying quality time with family and friends, or engaging in my quirky relaxation activity: push mowing my entire hilly yard!
My friends often describe me as trustworthy, a good listener, honest, easy to be around, and comforting. These qualities are important to me, and I strive to bring them into my classroom to create a safe and supportive environment for my students. One of my favorite quotes, which guides my educational philosophy, is by Aristotle: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is not education at all." I'm looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!

Postcards were put in the mail TODAY to let you know who your child will have as their homeroom teacher for the 2024-25 School Year. We are excited to welcome Mrs. Harman and Mrs. Kucera to our staff. Mrs. Harman will be teaching 3rd grade and Mrs. Kucera will be teaching 5th grade. *Ms. Iverson has moved to a 2nd grade classroom position.

We are excited to be gearing up for another amazing year at Steenrod! We have a few new staff members this school year who will be highlighted next week so that you can get to know them before meeting in person. The office is open! Ms. Nickie and Mrs. Dietrich are available to answer any questions you may have. School wide "All Calls" will begin this Sunday, August 4. You can expect a call at 5:30 p.m. If you do not receive a call or email, please contact the school office on Monday, Aug. 5.

School supply lists are posted but these are the really important ones!
The office opens on Monday, July 29. Call 304-243-0356 with any questions or wonders. Or, you can email mdietric@k12.wv.us.

Last week, we celebrated our 5th Grade Promotion, but mistakenly used the GPA from the 4th nine weeks rather than the GPA from the year when announcing Honors and High Honors. We are so proud of these students who showed excellent academic achievement for the year. The sky's the limit!
