Meet Mrs. Kucera!
Hello everyone! My name is Kathryn Kucera and I will be the new 5th grade teacher!
This will be my 8th year teaching and I am beyond excited to join the Steenrod family. I grew up in Moundsville and graduated from Wheeling Park. I attended West Virginia University to study education and after graduation my husband and I decided to stay in Morgantown where I have taught Pre-K, 6th Grade, and 5th Grade. After having our son, we decided to move back to Wheeling and last year I taught Media at Bridge Street Middle.
I enjoy reading, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with my little boy and husband. I have three dogs named Zoey, Bentley, and Griffin. I love Taylor Swift, Dunkin Donuts, and the Pittsburgh Penguins! I also absolutely love being an educator. It is truly one of the most rewarding careers and I am blessed to get to spend my days watching students learn and grow.
I can't wait to see what this school year brings! I will leave you with my favorite quote from my favorite celebrity (T. Swift): "No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.

Meet Mrs. Harman!
I'm thrilled to introduce myself as one of the newest members of the team. I'm Kayla Harman, and I'm excited to bring my 19 years of experience in education to the 3rd-grade classroom here at Steenrod. Much of my prior experience has been in administration, where I had the opportunity to observe, suggest, and support various classroom techniques and strategies. I come from the charming town of Powhatan Point, Ohio, where I live with my wonderful husband, our three energetic children, one playful dog, and our delightful granddog.
Growing up on a farm in Monroe County, Ohio, taught me the value of hard work and the simple joys of life. These days, when I'm not cheering on my kids in their various endeavors, you can find me boating, enjoying quality time with family and friends, or engaging in my quirky relaxation activity: push mowing my entire hilly yard!
My friends often describe me as trustworthy, a good listener, honest, easy to be around, and comforting. These qualities are important to me, and I strive to bring them into my classroom to create a safe and supportive environment for my students. One of my favorite quotes, which guides my educational philosophy, is by Aristotle: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is not education at all." I'm looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!

Postcards were put in the mail TODAY to let you know who your child will have as their homeroom teacher for the 2024-25 School Year. We are excited to welcome Mrs. Harman and Mrs. Kucera to our staff. Mrs. Harman will be teaching 3rd grade and Mrs. Kucera will be teaching 5th grade. *Ms. Iverson has moved to a 2nd grade classroom position.

We are excited to be gearing up for another amazing year at Steenrod! School supply lists are posted but these are the really important ones!
The office opens on Monday, July 29. Call 304-243-0356 with any questions or wonders. Or, you can email mdietric@k12.wv.us.

Last week, we celebrated our 5th Grade Promotion, but mistakenly used the GPA from the 4th nine weeks rather than the GPA from the year when announcing Honors and High Honors. We are so proud of these students who showed excellent academic achievement for the year. The sky's the limit!

Summer provides tons of opportunities for students; here's one for parents!

Check out this awesome summer adventure camp!

As we head into summer, you'll start to see sales for school supplies. Attached are the suggested items for each grade level.

The last week of school is bittersweet. We are excited for summer but are SO going to miss your children! Please check back to Facebook and Apptegy as we will share summer opportunities with you. If you signed up to help for Fun Field Day - THANK YOU! Parking is always a challenge, but please make sure not to block anyone in the parking lot.

There are so many things happening in the next two weeks! Pay attention to reminders coming home in your children's folders and agendas! Make sure to return any library books and do a scan of your house for any materials that belong at school.

Parents, enter your child, age 17 or younger, in the Fund the Future Sweepstakes! SMART529, West Virginia’s Education Savings Solution, will award $15,000 in college savings invested in a SMART529 account. Don’t delay! The deadline to enter is May 22, 2024. SMART529 is a program of the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! As we near the end of the year, it is perfect time to say "thank you" to the educators who give so much time and attention not only to teaching your children, but to encouraging, comforting, inspiring, redirecting, and planting a seed of what can be! They are some of the most compassionate humans you will ever meet as they genuinely care about your children and their well-being.
We have such a supportive PTA who have planned things for each day to express appreciation from the Steenrod community.
Also, our 3rd and 4th grade students will take the General Summative Assessment this week. A good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a "can-do" attitude will enable them to do their best on the test!

Calling all High School Graduates who attended Steenrod! We want to celebrate your graduation! Please join us on May 15 to be applauded for your accomplishments. ✨

We are making plans for Teacher Appreciation Week and Fun Field Day. Make sure to let us know what size shirt your child will need by Friday!
Also, yearbook orders are due by Tuesday!

The "Rocket Man", aka Jess White, Education Specialist and Program Analyst from the NASA IV&V Facility Education Resource Center in Fairmont taught our students about designing rockets, never giving up, and shooting for the stars! We loved learning and launching.

Students in our Tony M Music and Arts Foundation (TMMAF) session on Film Production had so much fun creating the storyline, crafting a storyboard, and acting in this feature film! Thank you to Amber Musser for teaching our students!
