STEAM Night was a fantastic event! We were Scientists, Techies, Engineers, Artists and Mathematicians! Thank you to ALL of our staff who helped, along with OCS Innovation and West Liberty University. We had an amazing night!

Saturday Scholars was a huge success with over 100 students attending! Thank you PTA, especially our coordinator, Lewis Honaker, and all of our parent, teacher and community volunteers!

We've got a busy week! We hope to see you on Wednesday for our STEAM Night. We'll start with a brief PTA meeting in the gym followed by a musical performance by K-3rd grade, and then the activities will begin! You can CHOOSE TO BE a Scientist, Techie, Engineer, Artist and Mathematician!

Congratulations to these authors! McKenna and Liam are both recognized as winners of the Ohio County Schools Young Writers Contest! McKenna won 1st place and Liam won 3rd! We are so proud of them and grateful to Ms. Hohman for encouraging them to share their creative talents.

Weโd love your input and help, especially if you have younger children who will attend Steenrod!
If you canโt make the meeting, but would like to help with the fundraising efforts, please keep an eye on our Social Media Cardinals in Motion Facebook page!

Check out the format of the assessment by taking a practice test with your child.

This week, our 3rd-5th Grade students will take the Writing portion of the General Summative Assessment. Please continue to send seasonal outerwear with your children, and mark their names on the tags! We play outside for recess whenever the weather cooperates. Also, if you have extra sweatpants that your child has outgrown, please send them in. Tumbles in wet grass have depleted our supply of extras!

Each February, Steenrod celebrates "Kind Cardinals" month. We have daily challenges and at the end of the month, classmates anonymously select one boy and one girl in their room as the student who is always kind. The vote is super close in so many classrooms, some even resulting in a tie! We are so proud of these students who were recognized by their classmates!

When you are at Texas Roadhouse, make sure to mention โSteenrod Dine to Donateโ. Your server will print an extra receipt and put it aside to count towards our profit!

Don't cook tomorrow! Come to The Texas Roadhouse at the Highlands! 10% of sales from 4:00-8:00 will benefit the primary playground.

Please continue to communicate with us when your child will be absent or tardy! Contact the school office, 304-243-0356 or email Ms. Nickie, nphillips@k12.wv.us

Students in third through fifth grades participate in the General Summative Assessment at the end of each school year. This year, we start with the writing portion in March. Please make note of the dates your children are testing!

Mr. Tim is always a hit at Steenrod! So grateful to our PTA for funding his visits and supporting the arts! His first visit was to third grade today

Peisen and his mom taught his classmates all about the celebration of Chinese New Year.

We'll see our students on Tuesday!

If you think our hands are full, you should see our hearts โค๏ธ ๐งก๐๐๐๐ Happy Valentine's Day!

The original "Where I'm From" poem was written by George Ella Lyon in 1993. http://www.georgeellalyon.com/where.html
Her work has inspired English teachers, who have inspired students to think about where they are from. Ms. Hohman's 4th Grade students wrote poems and were offered the opportunity to share them here. Enjoy!

The next step for our playground upgrade is to put in climbing equipment suitable for our younger students. Bring the family out on Monday, Feb. 26 for dinner at Texas Roadhouse to support our continued Cardinals in Motion fundraising!
Anyone who is interested in joining our playground committee is welcome to a meeting on Tuesday, March 12 at 3:30.
